Western medicine functions:
Tao Hong Si Wu Tang has a strong anti-inflammatory effect comparable to a dose of 50 mg/kg hydrocortisone, but without the unwanted side effect of atrophy of the thymus and adrenal glands. This formula is antihyperlipidaemic, and laboratory studies in rats show reductions in both total cholesterol and triglycerides. An in vitro study showed that use of the formula has significant effects on the cardiovascular system by dilating the coronary artery and increasing blood flow to the heart muscles.
